Healthcare Expansion
HIGHER CAPACITY WITH MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY
Objective
At a local remote hospital location, the Data Center floor space was maxed out and data cabinet space was quickly running out. Additional floor space was needed for adding (5) new cabinets quickly. The existing data center had adequate UPS power for the additional cabinets, so at least an additional UPS was not required. To compound the project, a short timeline was allotted to expand the data center space before the new computer equipment arrived and was to be commissioned.
Solution
Driven mainly by the short timeline, it was determined that a conventional buildout would seriously exceed the delivery date and startup of the new computer equipment. An approach was taken to purchase and install a ‘pre-packaged’ modular system….namely a row of sealed equipment cabinets that included ‘self-contained and redundant’ cooling, that were lockable, monitored, contained power distribution and even included an internal gaseous fire suppression system. The VERTIV (LIEBERT) “Smart Row” was selected.
Result
This new “Smart Row” included (5) data cabinets, (2) 5-ton LIEBERT cooling units (redundant) with all the supply and return ducting internal, electrical distribution housed in a partial cabinet (powered by the main UPS system). Even a gaseous FM200 fire suppression system was installed within the cabinets. This package included all the features of a ‘data center room’ – UPS power, redundant cooling, fire suppression, monitoring, etc. An added benefit was more efficient in operational cooling costs, had better fire suppression containment, a smaller overall foot print and was much quicker to deploy. End result, the new “Smart Row” package was specified, ordered, delivered and setup shaving weeks off the conventional ‘brick & mortar’ buildout while keeping costs about the same.
